SEO for Clinics and Practices

SEO for Cosmetic Surgeons and Medical Practices

Aesthetics Consults builds search visibility for cosmetic surgeons, aesthetic clinics and medical practices, and we do it inside the advertising rules that govern your profession. Plastic surgery internet marketing is one of the few categories where the wrong sentence on a page carries a regulatory consequence rather than a commercial one.

Why This Is Different

What Makes Medical SEO Different From Ordinary SEO

Ranking a plumber and ranking a cosmetic surgeon are not the same job. SEO for medical practices is a different discipline for three reasons.

01

The rules restrict what you may say

A plumber can say anything true about the work. A registered health practitioner cannot. Advertising a regulated health service is governed by legislation, by the national regulator, and by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

02

The patient behaves differently

SEO for surgeons has to account for a patient making a decision that carries real risk and real cost. They read more, compare more and check credentials. Digital marketing for surgeons rewards specificity in a way most industries do not.

03

Google applies a higher bar

Health and medical content is held to a stricter standard for expertise and trustworthiness. Thin service pages written by someone who has never read a practitioner guideline do not clear it.

The Gap

The Compliance Problem Most Agencies Do Not Know They Have

We read eight competing agency pages before writing this one. They are competent operators and several are good at the technical work. Not one of them mentions advertising regulation.

For an Australian cosmetic practice that omission is serious. Anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers and fat dissolving injections are Schedule 4 prescription medicines. They cannot be named in advertising directed at the public, and the Therapeutic Goods Administration has stated this includes generic descriptions, not only brand names.

An agency that puts one of those phrases into a client meta title has created a liability, not a ranking.

What changed on 2 September 2025

The AHPRA guidelines for advertising higher risk non surgical cosmetic procedures took effect on that date. They ban testimonials, restrict before and after imagery, prohibit claims of emotional or social benefit, and prohibit inducements such as discounts and time limited offers.

Those guidelines apply to anyone advertising a regulated health service, including clinic managers and digital marketers. If an agency writes copy that breaches them, the practitioner carries the regulatory consequence.

Our Method

We Treat the Rules as the Brief

Not as an obstacle discovered after the page is built.

Concern led content

A page about facial volume change, jaw clenching or excessive sweating attracts the same patient as a page naming a prescription medicine, and it is lawful to publish. The regulator’s own permitted framing is a clinic offering consultations about a concern. We write to that framing and it ranks.

Claim auditing before publication

Every efficacy statement, outcome word and superlative gets checked. Absolute claims come out. Conditional language goes in. Results vary qualifiers sit next to any outcome description.

Trademark checking

Device and product names in this sector are heavily enforced. We check marks before a page goes live rather than after a letter arrives.

Local Search

Local SEO for Clinics and Practices

Most patients choose a practice within travelling distance, so local search decides more than the general organic result does.

Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence. Distance is fixed. The other two are the work: primary category selection, service listings, attributes, review workflow, location pages and citation consistency.

The single highest weighted factor in local pack ranking is your primary business category, and a surprising number of practices have it set wrong. That is a fifteen minute fix that outperforms months of content for some practices.

One thing we will tell you that others sell as a service

Google Business Profile posts do not move rankings. A controlled study across 441 keywords over nine weeks recorded no measurable ranking movement from posting.

Posts earn clicks and answer questions, so we publish them. We do not bill them as a ranking activity.

What We Deliver

Built for Practices, Not Retrofitted

Procedure and concern pages

A practice usually ranks on its individual service pages rather than its home page. Where a procedure is lawful to name, we name it.

Website development

Hiring a doctor website company and an SEO agency separately is how practices end up with a rebuild that undoes the ranking work.

AI search and answer visibility

Ranking and being cited are no longer the same thing. Analysis of 863,000 results pages found only 38 per cent of AI Overview citations came from the organic top ten.

Who We Work With

Practices and Clinics

SEO medical clinic work and surgical practice work share the same regulatory constraints, so the method carries across.

Who We Are Not For

Three Things We Decline

Guaranteed rankings. Nobody can promise a position and anyone who does is either uninformed or misrepresenting how ranking works.

Patient testimonials. These are prohibited for regulated health services in Australia and no ranking benefit justifies the risk.

Advertising prescription treatments by name. We will not write it. If that is the requirement, we are the wrong agency and it is better to know now.

Engagement

How We Work

01

Month one: audit and foundations

Access to Search Console, Analytics and your Google Business Profile. Crawler access check, tracking accuracy, category audit, existing content reviewed against current advertising guidelines. You get the findings whether or not you continue.

02

Months two and three: execution

Technical fixes, profile rebuild, priority pages written and published, citation cleanup.

03

Month four onward: compounding

Content cadence, review workflow, link acquisition and reporting against enquiries rather than impressions.

Reporting shows consultation requests, calls and cost per enquiry. Not rankings screenshots.

Common Questions

Answers Before You Book

Straight answers to what practices ask before they engage an agency.

Two things. Advertising a regulated health service is governed by the national regulator and, in Australia, by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, so what you may lawfully say is restricted. And search engines apply a stricter quality standard to health content, which means thin service pages do not rank in this category the way they might elsewhere.

Not by name. Anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers and fat dissolving injections are Schedule 4 prescription medicines and cannot be referred to in advertising to the public, including in generic terms. Consultation led and concern led content is permitted and captures much of the same demand.

Yes. Dental, allied health, general practice and specialist clinics face similar advertising restrictions under the same national guidelines, and the same approach applies.

Google Business Profile category and listing corrections can move local rankings within weeks. On page work generally takes one to two months to register. Meaningful enquiry volume usually appears between months three and six, depending on competition in your city and the state of the site at the start.

No, and neither can anyone else. Any agency guaranteeing a position is either misunderstanding how ranking works or misrepresenting it.

Testimonials for regulated health services are prohibited in Australia, and before and after imagery is restricted under the advertising guidelines for higher risk procedures. We build credibility through practitioner credentials, clinical detail and third party verification instead.

You do. The domain, hosting, Google Ads, Google Analytics, Google Business Profile and any advertising accounts stay in your name with you as owner. If we stop working together you keep everything, including the historical data.

No. A controlled study across 441 keywords over nine weeks recorded no measurable ranking movement from posting. Posts earn clicks and answer patient questions, which is why we publish them, but any agency billing posts as a ranking service is charging for something with no measured ranking effect.
