Learn picosecond laser technology for pigmentation correction, tattoo removal, acne scarring, and skin rejuvenation. Advanced clinical training with hands-on device operation and treatment planning.

Program overview
PICO (picosecond) laser technology represents the gold standard in non-ablative laser treatment for pigmentation, tattoo removal, acne scarring, and skin rejuvenation. Unlike nanosecond Q-switched lasers, picosecond devices deliver ultra-short pulse durations that create a photoacoustic effect — shattering pigment particles more completely with reduced thermal injury to surrounding tissue. Our training program ensures you understand the physics, master the parameters, and can safely treat a wide range of skin concerns across diverse skin types.
Understanding PICO laser technology requires a solid foundation in chromophore targets, pulse durations, wavelengths (532nm, 785nm, 1064nm), and the differences between flat beam and fractional handpieces. Our program combines theory with supervised hands-on treatment sessions to develop real clinical competence in this advanced modality.
PICO laser curriculum
The program covers PICO laser science, clinical applications, parameter selection, and hands-on supervised device operation — progressing from foundational physics to advanced treatment protocols.
Is This Right for You?
Registered nurses already working in aesthetics who want to add PICO laser to their treatment menu for clients seeking pigmentation correction, tattoo removal, or acne scar treatment.
Qualified dermal clinicians looking to extend their scope into medical-grade PICO laser technology for complex pigmentation and skin rejuvenation cases.
Aesthetic business owners investing in PICO laser equipment who want their team formally trained in evidence-based treatment protocols to maximise clinical outcomes.
Dr Sana Pirzada is a highly experienced aesthetic practitioner and the founder of Aesthetics Consults. With over 15 years in cosmetic medicine, she has mentored hundreds of registered nurses across Australia, helping them build safe, confident, and AHPRA-compliant practices.
Her mentoring approach combines deep anatomical knowledge, hands-on injectable technique training, and real-world business guidance — everything you need to thrive in the competitive aesthetic medicine landscape
Q-switched lasers deliver nanosecond pulses (billionths of a second) for thermal-based pigment destruction. PICO lasers deliver picosecond pulses (trillionths of a second) — approximately 1000 times faster — generating a photoacoustic shockwave that shatters pigment particles with less heat. This results in more complete pigment clearance with lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and thermal damage.
PICO laser is highly effective for solar lentigines (sun spots), melasma (with caution), post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), seborrhoeic keratoses, multi-coloured tattoo removal, acne scarring (with fractional handpiece), and general skin rejuvenation and toning. Our training covers all of these applications.
Yes, with appropriate wavelength selection. The 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength is preferentially absorbed by deeper melanin and is the safest option for Fitzpatrick skin types IV–VI. Our training program covers skin typing and parameter selection across all skin tones.
Treatment frequency varies by indication. Pigmentation may resolve in 1–3 sessions; tattoo removal typically requires 6–15 sessions depending on ink colour and depth; acne scarring generally requires 4–8 sessions. Our training includes patient expectation setting and treatment planning.
